Hello, welcome to the website of the AKULA RACING TEAM! 

My name is Nico Montinola and my handle is “Accord GTR” in www.autoindustriya.com and www.kotse.com.   

Why AKULA?  Well, akula is Russian for shark.  It’s also the codename that the U.S. Navy uses to identify a class of Russia’s best fast-attack nuclear submarines.  So why did I choose the name for my racing team? 

I used to be one of the fastest competitive age-group swimmers in Asia and now am into Lap Attack or Time Attack.  Last January 15, 2006, I broke the BRC* lap record for closed-wheel production cars.  Please read my article at:

This April 2006, I started the AKULA RACING TEAM to launch my professional racing career as I enter as a Novice-class driver in the 2006 Philippine National Touring Car Championship, or PNTCC, series to be held at the *Batangas Racing Circuit, or BRC, and the Subic International Raceway, or SIR.  I will be racing a 1996 Honda Civic Lxi race car in Group 3 or Production Class and hope to finish the season with the Novice Championship trophy.

Honestly, I never dreamt of becoming a professional race car driver until very recently.  I was just an average car enthusiast until I graduated from the Tuason Racing School in 2003.  From there, I discovered I had a special talent for driving.  My friends and I started going to BRC regularly and even organized ourselves as the Trackho’s.  I modified my Honda Accord and Civic Type R (EK9) for circuit and joined Run-What-You-Brung and autocross events. 

I just kept winning and winning.  See Racing history.  I won both the amateur championship events in SIR and BRC, plus most of the autocross events I joined so I decided that it’s about time I turn professional.

I want to advance the motorsports here in the Philippines and share my passion with everyone who is interested.  So, if you see me at the track someday and I don’t know you, just come up and say “Hi” to me and say you read about the AKULA RACING TEAM.  Please include me in your prayers that I win my races ok?  I hope that I can give you a good show of my driving skills and share some of my talent and knowledge with you.

Last January 15, 2006, at the Batangas Racing Circuit, the 1st RFI TRACK TIME CHALLENGE or TRACK ATTACK was held with thirteen drivers of the fastest street cars ever to be driven at BRC showed up to do battle.
